Policies

When we were elected eight years ago we made a commitment that we would strengthen, empower, and amplify the work in our community to build power and make the change we want to see.

Together we’ve achieved so much. But as the climate crisis worsens, the wealth gap widens, and the cost of living soars – we know there’s still so much more to do to keep our community working for all of us.

Our priority will always be to ensure our community, and our local issues, are at the heart of the next parliament.

Renters are experiencing unprecedented rent hikes and are under enormous rental stress.

Rents have risen hugely in the last 12 months at four times the increase in wages and at a time when the rise in cost of living expenses is unprecedented. Landlords have got away with increasing rents unchecked for far too long.

The Greens will freeze and cut rents, and ban unfair evictions.

Mining and burning coal and gas is the leading cause of the climate crisis. Coal and gas are causing more extreme floods, fires and droughts in NSW.

The Greens don’t take donations fossil fuel industry. We have a plan to keep coal and gas in the ground and make coal and gas corporations pay for the damage they have done to communities and the environment.

While billionaires and big corporations reap record profits, the cost of living has skyrocketed and workers’ pay and conditions have gone backwards.

The Greens will give working people more rights, increase wages and guarantee the right to strike.

People are struggling to keep their head above water because the cost of everything is going up, and real wages have fallen.

The Greens will cut rents, stop unfair evictions, and build affordable homes. We will scrap the public sector wages cap, invest to ensure lower energy prices and ensure that public schools are genuinely free.

This country was invaded. The sovereignty of First Nations people has never been ceded. First Nations people were violently dispossessed, their children stolen, their families separated, and their lands, waters, and skies stolen and destroyed.

The Greens will commence a state-wide process of truth-telling and healing, on the path to Treaty and self-determination for First Nations people of New South Wales.

The Greens want action taken in this next Parliament to achieve the protection of rights, dignity and equality of all LGBTIQA+ people in NSW.

For decades we have been working with and for those seeking to advance rainbow rights - both in parliament and on the streets - and we will not stop until we see equality for all.

Gambling is out of control in NSW. The state has nearly half of Australia’s poker machines and loses more per person to gambling than anywhere else in the world. It’s time to bring gambling under control in NSW.

The powerful gambling lobby wields enormous influence on the major parties via political donations made by the more than 1,000 local clubs across the state. The Greens will stand up to the powerful gambling industry with a plan to pull the pin on pokies in NSW.
